Richard Sherman and the 49ers
Weird how things turn out sometimes.
Richard Sherman holds one of the top 5 moments in Seahawks history, and it came against the 49ers. Richard Sherman was probably the face of that Super Bowl team. Russell wasn’t quite yet max Wilson, Lynch was more himself than anything else. Sherman was the face of that team. Young, different, arrogant, defense, and good. He was the posterboy and he liked it. Sherman was Seattle.
Then he got hurt, slowed down a bit, got hurt some more, and generally became a typical corner. Still smart but he seems to lack what made him special back then. It was fun watching him always clown the 49ers though. Now…he is one? This is gonna be weird to see.
How do you Hawks and 49er fans feel about this? I’d imagine 49er fans are happy but I’m curious if Hawks fans are.
Imagine if he found himself on the Browns. I guess this turns the niners into a playoff team but I would like to see how this would effect Cleveland
I thought the Rams would’ve been better for him, being from Compton and all.
Raiders until they move to Vegas like Marshawn would have fit more IMO
Well, seeing as how the Rams had just traded for Talib and Marcus Peters that would have been very unlikely.
This may be off topic but I have a legit concern about the the years rookies because all of the teams who need a QB are getting their QB via the stacked off season QB class
The stacked QB class is probably the product of QBs playing with the right coach / better talent… Foles, Keenum, Bradford didn’t look so great for years so maybe let’s take their one year success with a grain of salt. I hope they pan out because they were fun to watch last yet, but defenses have an entire season worth of tape now. Cousins is legit good so I hope he ends up with the right coordinator.
How do I feel about a Seahawks legend playing on the team I hate most in the world? Yeah, it’s hard to stomach. No ill will towards Sherman, but that doesn’t doesn’t mean the first sight of him in a red jersey won’t make me puke.
Better SF than NE. I think. Barely. Maybe. Ugh, screw it all.

At least his contract is a joke and when he can’t perform with two busted legs and no Thomas backing him up and starts getting flagged every time he holds (i.e. every damn play) we can drop him with nothing lost.
This take didn’t age well
January 21st, 2020. How do you feel about Sherman now lmao
Am a Hawks fan, and Sherman’s my favorite player. Rough week, but it hurt more that he was cut than joining the 49ers. Honestly, I really like our division, and my tribalism has levels such that I prefer the NFC West to anybody else most of the time. I still curse their name and all, but in some ways I’m happy that it’s in the family still. Plus seriously, the team cut him. It’s hard to get too bent out of shape that he decided to take a job.
And really, in the end, the most important thing is that it’s not the Pats.
As a Niners fan I hated Sherman’s guts during the good days of the SF-Seattle rivalry, when he was a trash talking machine, but once the Niners colapses and the rivalry ended Sherman always spoke good things of those Niners teams and how he misses that rivalry and having that great rival, so it made me realize it was just an act, a persona that wasn’t really personal. Made me realize it was just business; after all. So I’m glad that Sherman is a Niner, he’s a fun dude and I still think he can play at a pretty high level.
I honestly thought it sucked until I actually read the deal. He is a smart self motivating guy, and I think the deal will motivate him to do better. I look forward to us having a better secondary. Oh and you missed him eating a turkey leg in the middle of Goddamn Levis stadium (I’m still a little bitter). Any ways I am sure it is harder for Hawks fans to see a franchise player go to your hated rival. Here’s to better than 2 and 14.
to me the weirdest thing about the whole thing is Joe Thomas tweeting sympathy to homeboy for how awful the contract is (apparently, dude is his own agent)
I’m cool with Sherman becoming a Niner, yeah I still hold a little grudge against him for stopping the Niners from making a seventh Super Bowl appearance and the damn Turkey leg on the logo. So I decided on common ground, I’m gonna call him Dick Sherman (yes, I know, it isn’t very creative). At least this way when he intercepts the ball I can yell Dick with the Pick.
49ers fan here. We’re generally pretty excited to have him! Sherman had our number back in the day, and knew how to rub salt in the wounds he inflicted. It was hard to like him as a 49ers fan, but I never really had an issue with him or anything he did: the post game rant, eating turkey on our 50 yard line, etc. He managed to piss me off and entertain me in equal measure; he was the best corner in the league and I always respected that and respected his passion for the game. If he wants to help us win games now, I’m more than happy to have him aboard.
Been interacting with a lot of Seahawks fans online in the last few days and they have been, overall, pretty gracious about it– it wasn’t Sherman’s decision to leave, after all. This 49ers team is totally different than the one from the 2013 NFC Champion Game, and the Hawks have to hit the refresh button. It’s still awkward, but the pairing makes a lot of sense, since we really need a veteran CB1 and we run the same system.
As a niners fan I’d really rather not have him on the team. He probably makes the team better, and I’m excited about a perceived trajectory, but fuck Sherman, fuck him forever.
This. I know he makes the team better but I’d rather it was anybody else. I’ll probably still be booing him out of habit in week 6.
This feels kind pretty similar to the Joe Haden release. He was a fan favorite on the Browns, used to be really good, plagued by injuries, then released. Then he went to a rival just a few days later. Honestly, if I were a 49ers fan, I’d be very happy. You have a really good QB, just signed a top CB, and have a top-10 draft pick. Good things to come for the 49ers, hopefully they don’t turn into the new Patriots, that’s all we can hope.
The 49ers might be contenders!
I can say that Hawks fans are having a harder time with the idea that that Seahawks original Pete Carrol Hawks team is done. Forever no one cared about the Hawks. We were ignored by the national media and then we get this ultimate braggadocious, young, smart team (who can back it up), led by Sherman forced the rest of the NFL to notice us. The idea that it’s over sucks. The fact who is going to the Niners doesn’t bother me nearly as much. In fact, I think it will reinvigorate this rivalry since SF has been a doormat for the last 3 years. I laugh more at the inner faithful who HATED Sherman – called him a cheat and everything else in the book – who now are on cloud nine. Ridiculous
I couldn’t help but laugh when I read where he ended up. Considering who we’re talking about, it’s too perfect; trolling Niners and ‘Hawks fans at the same time.
I harbor no ill will towards the guy and wish him the best, except when he’s playing against the ‘Hawks of course. He played with heart and intensity and, beyond the tip, made some memorable plays.
+sniff+ we could have got him +sniff+
You’ll be lucky if Big Ben returns.
Even if, they’re still trying to get Bell a long-term contract. I don’t think they’d want to bring in another guy worth big money. Bell might take it the wrong way, and could even retire (highly doubt it, but a possibility).
This is like coming home to find your wife in bed with the 49ers.
Ooof. This hurts. I don’t begrudge Sherman for getting paid, as the Seahawks weren’t gonna do it. But the Niners? Really? Ooof.
Hawks fan, here. This sucks. I’m a huge Sherman fan, and seeing him go is hard enough. But seeing him go to the 9ers is excruciating. I can’t bring myself to hate Sherman, and so my hate for the 9ers will never be as whole-hearted as when every one of their players and coaches was equally hateable. I don’t even have a good place to put my rage anymore. [eats another pint of ice cream while moodily glaring at computer]

Jotaro dies in Part 6.
Meh. James Harrison left the Steelers to join rival teams twice. Sherman’s slide from amazing to pretty good and the decline of the somewhat expensive legion of boom makes this move less than shocking to me, but still pretty entertaining.
I hate how deebo left us
I’m not bitter. The man was a Steelers icon and gave us one of the greatest moments in Super Bowl history and he came out of retirement in our time of need. He can play for whoever he wants, in my book.
Dayum, it is because of Sherman that I’m a CB now, and no injury made me sad as his last season. But razionalizing, I think that Seattle needs to focus more on its o-line and leave the big salary that was Sherman. I guess Carroll knows some players we don’t know.
It would injure me more if a Seahawk star goes to the Rams or the Cards, and I still hope that at week 17, SF@SEA, 17-14 with one minute to go, Wilson targets Baldwin and Sherman goes on man to man and lets Doug with the ball to the endzone, making Seattle pass Los Angeles and win the NFCW. The stadium would beat the world record of noise, and Sherman would get a statue near the C-Link
