Last week Mike Tomlin surprised the world by revealing that he’s been building a city in minecraft for over a decade as a wind-down activity in his spare time. Then, at the urging of everyone, namely his own kids, he made a video detailing his city to the world a couple of night ago. It was, in no uncertain terms, a delight. He was making incredibly realistic buildings with ADA compliant bathrooms and proper lighting. It was hard to not immediately think of every dad or grandpa that you’ve ever met that built a model train set in the basement. Mike Tomlin has never felt more relatable.

It kinda made me wonder what sorts of video games would fit other coaches. Sean McVay seems like a gymrat. Andy Reid would enjoy games about food and cooking. Any coach that willingly joins a bad franchise probably has a souls-esque masochism streak. Howie Roseman probably likes pokemon because he wants to catch them all.

So many coaches are millennials now so the reality of them playing video games is pretty likely. You can’t tell me Mike McDaniel doesn’t have opinions on Zelda. One the hot young coaches was probably ranked on counterstrike for a time, like O’Connell or Ben Johnson. Demeco Ryans looks like he could be a fighting game guy. Liam Coen has gamer written all over him. Mike Vrabel probably knows several cheat codes. Every coach under 45 has at the very least played games with their kids.

I feel like the video game haters are the Harbaughs, Sean Payton, and Mike McCarthy. The Harbaughs would simply find them pointless (more so Jim, John might be okay with it), Payton would probably call you a pussy for liking them, and McCarthy seems like a guy who tried Mario Kart once and couldn’t finish a lap. Also, Jeff Halfley. He looks like an annoying hardass who thinks games make people soft. Seems like the kinda guy who’d take away your phone and tell you to go chop wood.
