Shedeur Speeds Away
I was wondering what the level of drama would be after the draft nonsense died down and Shedeur simply went to work in Cleveland. It’s been quieter than I expected, to be honest. Especially since Shedeur hasn’t been invisible. He’s been caught speeding twice. Not great, but it could be worse I suppose. He didn’t Henry Ruggs anybody, but for fucks sake there is no reason to go 100mph on any public road. If he was a regular 5th round pick he might be in danger of getting cut but I doubt the Browns are going to do that.
It is funny though, the noise is absolutely there. But everyone seems to be ignoring it. Search for Shedeur news and you won’t find a shortage of stupid noise articles. People areĀ trying to milk Shedeur for offseason content, but the national media isn’t biting. I’m actually shocked at how relatively little seemed to be made about his two speeding tickets. That seemed like territory rife for the haters.
What caught my eye was this story from The New York Post (yes I know, not the world’s best source). Watson is embracing the mentor role, which made me laugh my ass off and worry for the poor kid. Setting aside the…very large elephant, I’m not sure Watson would even serve as a good football mentor at this stage. Since arriving in Cleveland Watson has been historical levels of garbage. Whatever we saw in Houston seems to be gone. What is he going to teach Shedeur? How to give 30%? Watson hasn’t just been bad since he got to the Browns, he hasn’t even looked interested. He walked out there every play with a Jay Cutler level of passion. I’m sure it’s hard to muster enthusiasm when you have the best guaranteed contract in the world and everyone hates you. I’d probably not try either.
Despite everything I am quite interested to see how the Browns QB competition plays out. I still think Shedeur has a good chance to play some ball this year if Flacco gets hurt or sucks some ass. He went to the one team where his major draft fall might still afford him a chance. He’s gonna fill some seats with hype. Pickett and Gabriel are not high bars to clear if Sanders genuinely is the prospect Mel Kiper thinks he is. It just appears we are going to need more time before the picture becomes more clear. I hope they all get a start. The Browns Hydra has a chance to really pop off this year.
Feels like not so long ago that the hydra was retired. Hopefully the next QB to try to slay it learns from Baker.
1) Jay Cutler did not go through 12 years of being occasionally interested beyond just thinking ahead to his next cigar to be ranked with Deshaun ‘I Am Become Elephant’ Watson like that.
2) Second fact to prove this: Watson grew up in Gainesville, Georgia; Cutler grew up in SANTA CLAUS, Indiana. Do you want something that sounds like an Insurance Company or Santa Claus? I rest my case, my liege.
3) I know you’re shocked to read this but this makes me think we might need another CarCrashComic with the Browns QB Hydra. (I’m not addicted. I can stop anytime I want. Just … I just need another CarCrashComic to take the edge off.)
Seeing this makes me miss the Johnny Manziel Cleveland comics. Also, the Post does publish a lot of trash, but their Sports reporting is one of their good areas.
