Diggs Gets Cleared
About a week before the Super Bowl Stefon Diggs was accused of physically assaulting his then-chef. I think we all sorta wrote it off as probable because Diggs has had a weird reputation as kind of a fuckboi and these incidents are unfortunately more common than we want them to be among athletes.
Well, turns out this was one of those cases that appears to genuinely be an extortion attempt. The accuser crumbled under pressure in the courtroom and Diggs’ defense attorneys brought receipts. So under the court of law, for what we know, Diggs may still be a silly fuckboi but he’s not a violent abuser.
It’s kind of wild to see what happened since he was cut. I don’t think anyone was bothered by him getting cut. But the guy who cut him has found himself embroiled in the funniest football tabloid drama in years. Every week we get a new bit of lore. They get caught. She quits. They find older pictures. He looks frazzled at the draft. We find out her first kid is named Mike and speculate on the coincidence. Our latest juice is that while she was visibly pregnant with baby Mike, she was on a private boat with big Mike, and they were both notably resistant to having pictures taken by the boat rental employees.
Diggs isn’t the stud he used to be but he can still contribute to any team who picks him up so I’m curious to see where he lands. Will he go back to New England, if they want him? Or if he wants them, after they didn’t stick by him? Would he go back to any of the teams he’s left, like Houston or Buffalo? Is he going to be strapped for suitors and end up on the Browns in week 3?

The neverending firesale in Miami could use a match. At least give us something to look at while we go 6-11.
Dude, lay off of it, Dave. She said the kid was named after her brother, and Diana has a long history of being truthful with us, so get off her back, man! Who do you think you are, Mike Vrabel?!
I just can’t believe how the NFL is continuing to try and sweep the football aspect of this under the rug. Like, yea, the public is here for the scandal, and on the rank of scumbags, having extramarital sex with a pregnant woman (or AS a pregnant woman) is fairly high on the godawful-waste-of-human-space-o-meter. As long as the kid doesn’t look like a confused caveman. If he does, well, in all honesty, that’s probably good news for her Shake Shack Loving Soon-to-be-Ex-Husband.
But I’m sure the NFL will look at them renting a boat the SAME MONTH that she broke news the Falcons had a first round offer on the table for Julio Jones, only for him to end up going for far less to the… *checks notes* the Titans. Huh. Nothing shady there, what’s everyone so… oh. Ohhhh. OHHHHH. Vrabel was the HC.
Well, ok, that was a one time thing. It’s not like they ever did it aga- what’s that? They did it again twice? Well obviously, it’s very clear they like doing it from all the clips where they bitch and whine about their spouses. Oh, you mean they manipulated the NFL trade markets in a way that should ABSOLUTELY be investigated a few more times with AJ Brown, but probably won’t, because Robert Kraft will offer handjobs to everyone involved? Yea, that tracks.
What if this was Bill Belichick’s doing to get revenge on Kraft, and he’s only acting like a bumbling old man to avoid being implicated as the camera man? Have we considered that? Because I gotta tell you, six years (possibly more?) of tampering with the trade market by having an affair with a pregnant woman is worse than filming the Jets sideline signals. That Bill Belichick… dude’s playing 4D chess! From filming bumbling idiots to… filming bumbling idiots. Huh. I guess some things never change.
Long history of being truthful, huh? Bet her husband thought the same thing.
…Diggs was cut because of his contact.
This is 100% the reason, but of course the team can’t say that.
I assumed that was common knowledge, no one cuts a player for character issues until there is a conviction and maybe not then.
Well, at least Kraft, being the upstanding guy he is, got his happy ending at last.
Ehhhhh this one is a miss for me. What Diggs was accused of is dramatically worse than what Vrabel did. Allowing Vrabel to stay on but cutting Diggs (in the situation where they are both guilty) would be logical. Obviously as Diggs is innocent, hopes he gets a chance somewhere.
What someone else lied about Diggs doing is worse than what Vrabel actually did?
Aye, son, right. Give your heid a shake, it might rattle.
Why should Diggs suffer the consequences of something he not just DIDN’T do, but was FOUND not to have done in a court of law?
Meanwhile Vrabel is shown to be not just a liar, but a veteran philanderer. But sure, someone talked shit about Diggs to get money out of him, so he’s endzone-level scum. Suuuuuuuuure.
(Meant for here – why it went to A A Ron’s comment I have no clue)
Calm yourself bro, I’m not saying Diggs deserved to be punished. He is innocent. If you read literally any of the fucking words I wrote, you’d see that. Assuming you can read.
But it’s a false dichotomy to say that physically assaulting your employee is somehow even remotely in the same league as having an affair in terms of the “culture” of the club. In the comic, Vrabel cuts Diggs before it comes out that Diggs is innocent.
One more in the long line of people lying to try to extort money from athletes, yet the media laps up the lies and the team cuts the guy. I really wish that we could grow as a people and apply innocent until proven guilty in more aspects of our lives. This is the reason that To Kill a Mockingbird is required reading throughout most of the US.

I have no dogs in this fight but for some reason I want to see Buffalo bring him back. It just felt right, him being a Bill.
The haters are in full force in this section.
Sure, vrabel is scum. Diggs was unfairly punished.
But the NFL across the board has a long history of cutting guys who are accused of violent crimes before the trial, because “we don’t want to be associated with that” or some shit. Meanwhile there’s virtually no history of any repercussions for infidelity. It’s just not a thing the NFL cares about. Go bang whoever you want, just get consent.
To act as though cutting diggs and sticking by vrabel is somehow hypocritical is insane. The fact that diggs is innocent came out much, much later. Criticize the pats for not standing by their guy, not trusting diggs, or whatever, but don’t criticize them for cutting a guy accused of a violent crime. That’s what everyone does, as long as you’re not a superstar on a friendly contract.
“Aye son. Give your head a shake. It might rattle”. Try it yourself.
I basically agree with you, which is actually why I’m kinda peeved at the NFL over this. It has a long history of cutting ties with people when there’s smoke – unless they’re an absolute superstar. Which is why I find it so galling that Vrabel has thus far been completely untouched by any of this. Put aside the cheating, put aside the having sex with a pregnant woman. Let’s say their stories were totally true, and Vrabel and Diana did NOTHING sexual, and there really were friends off camera. They should STILL be investigated. There is *CLEARLY* enough smoke here to warrant an investigation, and yea, it’s kinda crappy that a player like Diggs gets punished before a trial, while the NFL will circle up the wagons and protect Vrabel, presumably because there is a LOT of rot under them floor boards. It’s obviously not the same situation, but if the shoe was on the other foot… if Diggs was having sex with Russini and *potentially* feeding her info to tamper with the trade markets, and Vrabel was accused of assaulting his chef… Diggs would still be cut and Vrabel would still have a job. And that’s kinda bullshit.
And for what its worth, Diggs has a long history of infidelity as well! But he stayed on the various teams during all that, as will Vrabel.
… ok. But infidelity isn’t the direct issue here. People need to stop trying to make a straw man out of that. This is about a coach and a reporter potentially coming together to attempt to do something that the league deems illegal. The infidelity is just the icing on the cake. The timing and their dates line up perfectly enough that I don’t know how they don’t conduct an investigation into this to see if there is fire with that smoke. The league rightfully shouldn’t care about a history of infedility. But it SHOULD care about a history of infedility with a smoking gun that points to trying to alter the player market.
I’m not gonna say it’s not sketchy, or that there wasn’t tampering, or that it doesn’t warrant an investigation, or that if it’s true (which it probably is) that is doesn’t warrant fines to draft pick penalties. But I am going to ask why a reporter has the ability to influence trade markets at all.
Like, if I’m a GM, and I read a report by russini that an aj brown deal is basically done, why is that gonna stop me from calling Philly? Let Howie Roseman tell me no. Don’t just take russini’s word for it.
I fully agree, I have no clear answer on the “HOW” part, but the success of a crime doesn’t generally clear you of it. So even though the first two trades they potentially worked together on didn’t work out, I still think the NFL should be putting out a pretty strong statement against reporters and coaches teaming up to do things that are against league policies with a pretty strong response.
Funniest thing to me is that Diggs has had his own women on a boat scandal, though his involved mysterious substances and not(?) pregnancy lol
But seriously, in my not so expert opinion screw extortionists in general, screw any consenting adult you want, and keep football players away from boats.
Ahh hypocrisy at its finest. That whole “Patriots Way” has always been total BS, they won because Brady was the Goat who took a much smaller paycheck letting the team have the money to put good players around him.
Regarding Russini, boy her husband hopefully has dna tested his two kids because it sure looks like her son Mike’s dad was also a Mike.
The funny thing is Vrabel’s wife is gorgeous, like blows Russini out of the water looks wise.
He’s been with her for decades so a divorce is gonna cost him. It sure looks like Mike Vrabel wanted his cake and eat it too ie he keeps his gorgeous wife at home, keeps his money and had Russini as his long term side chick.
Win win for everyone (except their spouses) until it all blew up.
Cant believe Im sidin with Stefon “Dont Date My Sister” Diggs
