Joe Burrow goes to Injured Reserve. Again.
Turf Toe is a shockingly bad injury, considering the nickname. If you weren’t aware of what it actually is, it’s a sprain/tear of your big toe ligaments. Makes it really hard to walk. Or pivot. Or do stuff with that foot. Burrow suffered a grade 3 Turf Toe, which has full tears and requires surgery. He’s out for 3 months minimum, probably the season. The Bengals finally managed a good start to the season and it didn’t matter.
After the Burrow diagnosis came out people were beginning to compare him to Andrew Luck. Luck also seemed to suffer a series of cascading problems that ended each season with him out or suffering. We all know what that did to Luck. It mentally broke him just as much as it physically broke him, and he retired out of nowhere. The Colts spent so many years failing to build around and protect Luck and the team has been in limbo ever since. It’s hard not to see the parallels with Burrow.
Burrow seems like more of a baller than Luck did. Luck was a smart guy who had aspirations and intelligence beyond football that would allow him to move on, even if he didn’t necessarily want to. Burrow seems to be more about football, maybe more trapped in it. I don’t think Burrow is going to retire the same way Luck did, but if this keeps up, we might see another waste of a true talent. The Bengals have already squandered some of the best offensive play in the league with bad defense and bad roster building.
Nobody wants this. Even a rival fan wants to see the Bengals suffer for football reasons and not health reasons. It’s always a shame when talent is robbed due to the harsh limitations of the human body. I hope he’s able to heal up and keep going for years.

IN ANOTHER NOTE: some of you may have noticed the site having loading problems over the past week. Loading slowly, not loading at all, etc. I am aware of the problem and in communication with my hosting service about it. The direct cause of the slowdown (it’s even worse for me in the backend) has not yet been determined and I have been trying various things to figure it out. I hope to solve the issue through the weekend, as I’m just one guy with limited web design/programming knowledge. However, there is a chance it continues through Monday/Tues, etc. If It comes to it, please check my socials for updates. I will not stop making the usual content but there is a chance there is a temporary lack of updates while I figure it out.

Andrew Luck is now the GM for Stanford. He didn’t lose his love for football, just the NFL.
I doubt that Burrow retires in any fashion similar to what Andrew Luck did. If there’s a divorce between him and Cincinnati, it’s more likely he goes the Carson Palmer route of just completely quitting on the team and demanding out. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that either, though. I don’t think Bengals fans deserve a redux like that.
I love that Luck is still hangin out in our favorite place. Seriously though, maybe Luck does need to have a conversation with Burrow. I love Joe (LSU fan). But dude is having his life shortened from the lack of help. That awesome receiver corps does no good if he ain’t got time to do a 3 step drop without someone in his face.
God I love my football moose
Please stay out of that bar Josh
I had turf toe playing football in HS. It’s been over 20 years, I’ve had countless injuries over the years, but it’s the turf toe that still makes me flinch if someone touches my big toes.
I wonder if we could go back in time with the knowledge we have now, would the Bengals still select Chase over Sewell. Obviously Chase has been outstanding, but Sewell has been excellent outside of a rough rookie year.
Burrow should’ve known better after his rookie deal was up to get out of Cincy. If I was him I’d demand a trade out of Cincy by whatever means necessary and hope he gets into the NFC where he could really do some damage. Imagine Joe on the Vikings or Lions.
I love how Football Moose remains cheerful after being told to leave. That and the fact that he hasn’t wiped the blood off.
I wish that Burrow gets at least 1 ring in his time, he is just really talented. The lack of O-line and bad coaching just keeps a cap on the Bengals potential with Burrow, Chase and Higgins. That lone SB loss may be their only appearance ala Dan Marino.
It would be great if he pulled a Stafford, swapping teams for a ring, then just retiring on top of the mountain and before suffering any life altering injuries.
