So it actually happened, Marshawn did it. He came back for a chance to play for his hometown team.

It’s a hell of a thing. Marshawn goes to the one team he probably always would have wanted to play for, probably at the best time in his career to play for them. Any years before this past one probably would have been rough since the Raiders were such a crapshow for so long. But now the Raiders are good! They are also moving in two seasons, probably about as long as Marshawn will last a (at most). Win win for everyone. The Raiders get to win a little goodwill to the local fans who they’ve scorned with a hometown hero, Marshawn gets some more dough and to go out in style, and best of all, we the fans get more Marshawn Lynch. We could all use more Marshawn Lynch in our lives. Lynch is an national treasure. Hell, maybe international hero.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love this man. He’s probably been my favorite non-Giant in the past decade. I love how how he’s just the realest dude in the world. Marshawn could be in the white house meeting the president or in an Oakland back alley, and he’d be the exact same person either way. He’s just Marshawn Lynch.

That said I don’t expect him to be much good and the Raiders probably need a second, better workhorse option than Lynch. He was beat up his final seasons with the Hawks and a few years off may have softened him up a bit. Then again, maybe the time off healed him. But he’s on the wrong side of 30, he’s not going to be what he once was. We might get a few vintage moments of Marshawn Lynchery but the magic will probably be gone. I hope it’s not. I hope he leads the Raiders to a Championship and gives the city something to hold onto before the team bails.

For now, let’s just enjoy that we get more Marshawn Lynch in our lives.
