The right team is any team.

I’m surprised Dez hasn’t found a home yet (if he doesn’t end up signed by the time this goes live). I knew he was in decline but he must be actually picky or just not nearly as good as I thought he was. He said he wants to play for a contender, but every veteran who gets cut after a long stint and can’t find work spouts that same meaningless line. I’m convinced it’s mostly used to save face, to try and handwave away the fact that they haven’t found a team yet. It’s a meaningless statement. What player doesn’t want to play for a contender? What player would prefer to be on the dysfunctional bad garbage teams? Joe Thomas?

But then they end up signing somewhere for cheap after waiting a long time and realizing they don’t have the leverage they expect to have. Connor Barwin used the same “contender” line recently and just signed with the Giants. The Giants will likely be better than last year but even the biggest Giants homer doesn’t expect them to do anything soon. It’s just a line. Technically, with how fair the NFL is, anyone could reasonably contend every year. That’s kind of the beauty of it. Maybe not in the AFC but the NFC sure knows how to do it right. If you want to play on a true contender, go to the Pats, Steelers, or anyone in the NFC not from Detroit and you have a reasonably high chance of being in the right place at the right time.

I’ve heard of rumors for Dez to like, every team. I have no idea what to expect from him anymore.
